Character auditioning for:
Davy Jones
Why do you want to rp this character so much?:
Davy Jones is fascinating once we reach the second film. He has the sinister charm that Captain Barbossa possesses but the key magic of his role is his history. Davy Jones was in love. This has real significance when playing his character. There were moments in the film when you saw Davy Jones almost having memories of his love. With Elizabeth's dress and the lullaby music that drifts him off to sleep. We know that even under that cold heart there is love, and I hope, when I roleplay with what experience I have already got, I will show this different side to him.
The History of the character:
Physical Description:
"He appears along with his crew of half-human, half-sea creature sailors aboard The Flying Dutchman. He is portrayed as a mutated cross between a man and an octopus, with a wriggling beard of tentacles and two crustacean-esque limbs."
Davy Jones, in my eyes, is a fascinating character, beaten brutally by love, scourged with anger and bitter with hate. His appearance resembles something monstrous, with his octopus/squid like face (which later has relevance to the Kraken) and his unique and horrid limbs. One being a crab like pincer and the other a long and extendable tentacle, which draws from his index finger. The true wonders of Davy Jones' appearance however exists entirely with his beard of tentacles. These do not simply hang like a beard of hair but instead move, shrivel and even rise and lower according to Davy Jones' mood. He is dressed in black pirate clothing, similar to that of Jack Sparrow but darker, mustier and fouler. Sea like crustaceans have grown over his body, giving him a "dark coral" feel. He also wears a pirate's hat which gives possible reference to his previous life as a human...
Personality:
Davy Jones has a short fused temper, accompanied by a mysterious hunger to win. He is a fine captain on the Flying Dutchman but he always comes across as someone who doesn't have a heart. (excuse the pun). He is cold, serious and unmerciful. And yet there is something inside of his soul that brings back strong memories of love. He plays the organ and is normally found missing those beauties of life. But Davy Jones, for the creature he has become, is now lost. He cares only to add to his crew and doing this he will destroy anything in his path that stops him from doing his job.
Character History:
"the story follows that Davy Jones was once an average sailor who fell in love with a beautiful woman. When he could not have her, the pain was so much that he cut out his still beating heart, and sealed it in a chest, so that he would never have to feel love or compassion ever again."
The above is the basis for what I will use as Davy Jones' character. Little is known to how he eventually took command of the Flying Dutchman but bearing in mind his history with love, it was almost as if his heart had been lost and his cold intentions were brought to life.
Interests / Hobbies:
1)Playing the Organ
Davy Jones loves playing the organ while the rest of his abled body crew are whipped while working.
2)Destroying vessels with the his "beastie"- The KRAKEN.
Davy Jones has the power to summon the Kraken from the Flying Dutchman and the titanic, large squid like beast only will obey Davy Jones, giving him a amajor advantage.
Weaknesses:
Davy Jones is not invincible but in human flesh, I'm afraid that there's little to do for you to stand a chance against beating him. When slashing such a monstrosity with a sword, for example, results in pain but not death. As well as his noble crew, he posesses a slight phase of invulnerability, being "part of the sea" as mentioned in the films. However, Davy Jones can be killed with the stab of a knife. Buried on an island, his heart is hidden in a grand chest, the key, is kept with him at all times, but if one was to claim the key and then open the chest. With one stab of the knife, or a use of blackmail, Davy Jones could die or even do your bidding. Finding the chest is hard but claiming the key is nearing impossible.
Descent sized sample post:
Davy Jones
Tentacles that strung together loosely were strings from his beard, twisting and writhing all at the same time. They pressed downwards, lifted up, swung, shook and shivered. The tentacles that hung from Davy Jones' beard were alive and at the moment, so was his music.
The vibrant echo of the organ exploded from his cabin as the tentacled pressed on each key. His dark eyes fluttered as he was lost in the sea of music. The momentous gathering of tunes was forging a storm.
Outside, the deck swamped a black, sickening colour, his mutated crew members dragged their bodies, mopping as they went. Davy Jones ignored them. He was too focussed, the tentacles that swung from his face, moved at the same time, including the one from his index finger.
He was talented, there was no doubt about that and little would stop Davy Jones for creating such masterpieces.
When he approached the finale of his composition, a dark smile spread across his face. And the song ended. There was no applause, no praise. But Davy Jones wasn't expecting any of the sort. The sound of whips being brought down on the newly dragged crew members brought a sense of excitement deep inside his pupils. Raising to his feet, he lashed his neck backward and his nostrils flared, the tentacles gathered together and were raised as if looking to the window.
For a moment, he listened to the waves beating the Flying Dutchman like a killer whale beating a sea lion to death. But slowly, his large monstrous body suddenly felt so small as he pictured her once gorgeous face sailing on that horizon.
A single tear fell from his eyes... sing me to sleep my love. Sing me to sleep.
